Filament 38

The Haven - By DJ MystchieF (www.clubhaven.com)

Filament 38 is the expressive sonic vision of Ash. Using electronics to create mystique and darkness, Ash composes material that focuses on emotions and imagery. “Unstable” is the second and dare I say more polished and mature release from Filament 38. It continues to delve further into a gray area best described between classic EBM and modern harsh electro-industrial. This CD is full of all the things a growing body needs… pounding bass-lines, airy synths, great samples, distorted vocals and rhythms from another dimension. Since joining the NGP Street Team I have had the pleasure of doing reviews for Emergence, Cruciform Injection and Yavin4… and it leads me to the belief that NGP and it’s artists are incapable of producing crap music.

Each release is better than it predecessor and each live performance by these talented acts is paramount. I guess I could give Ted Phelps (Imperative Reaction) credit for post production on this CD but I prefer to single out the artist as the true prominent force here and congratulate them on a album worthy of worldwide dance floor exposure. Standout tracks are… “Contempt”, “Interface”, “Stasis”, “Suffocate”, “Blood”, “Uplink (TerraMachina)” and “Relapse”. Aside from the ten original tracks on this disc are 3 top quality remixes from Imperative Reaction, Terrofakt and label mates Cruciform Injection. If you don’t already have this CD buy it, disappointment is not an option and resistance to it is futile. [Mystchief]

Although there's a bit of an early/mid 90's feeling (FLA, X-Marks The Pedwalk, Evils Toy) throughout the trip, the band parallel spreads a flair of the present time. The disc holds a whole bunch of dancefloor candidates - "Contempt" with its mega groovy beats, "Dissect (Infekt)" with its sci fi sounding synth spots, "Uplink (TerraMachina)" with its partly reminding of Boytronic rhythms, or the uptempo cookie "Suffocate". Also the midtempo piece "The Cold Process" with its convex, hymnal fragrance and the slow "Relapse" with its melancholic, trippy character and deep atmosphere manage to convince.
